At Bergeron Winery, we believe that exceptional wines are made with exceptional grapes. With this in mind, the vineyard where the grapes are grown becomes an extremely important decision.

For our Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah wines we chose high elevation vineyards for their unique properties. At these high altitudes more UV light is present than at lower altitudes, stimulating the vines which produces thicker grape skins, in turn aiding in the development of deeper, more vibrant colors and flavors in the grapes. Hot summer days that are followed by the cool mountain winds in the evening also aid the vines in growing; producing healthy natural acidity and sugar levels in the fruit. The results are intense colors and flavors which are striking. You will taste the difference!

Fore Family Vineyards

Located on Cobb Mountain in Lake County, our vineyard is one of the highest elevation vineyards in California. Fore Family Vineyard is at an altitude of 3000 feet ASL. This is in the Mayacamus Mountain Range and is part of the Red Hills A.V.A. (American Viticulture Area). Recognized for its unique red volcanic mineral-rich soil and long hot summers followed by cool winds from Clear Lake, make this vineyard an excellent environment for Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grape growing.

Pine Mountain Vineyards

Situated close to the top of Pine Mountain in Mendocino County, yet with stunning views of Sonoma County is Pine Mountain Vineyards. This vineyard is also in the Mayacamus mountain range and has been newly appointed as an AVA, because of its unique characteristics for growing premium wine grapes.

Elevations here range from 2200 to 2400 feet. Here lies large components of sandy and gravely volcanic soil that drain extremely well. The microclimate here is unique in that the high elevation gives the vines cooler days and warmer nights than the valley floor. Being above the valley floor and fog gives longer days with natural ocean breezes. This makes for happy vineyards, which give us back in return grape berries that are filled with intense flavor and color.

The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown here are a winemakers delight, yielding exceptional world class wines.

Fore Hill Vineyards

Napa Valley is world renowned for its vineyards and wine. Located just northeast of the city of Napa, is Fore-Hill Vineyards. Here in the foothills of Napa Valley, just east of the Oak Knoll District AVA, are two small Merlot vineyards producing exceptional Merlot grapes. The cool fog from San Francisco Bay along with less wind than the Oak Knoll District allows this cobblestone knoll to ripen the grapes late in the growing season, producing rich and dark colored grapes. The wine produced from these grapes is exceptional.

Historically, Bergeron has used these grapes in our Bordeaux style Cabernet Sauvignon wines.
